Mossel Bay local Alba Kya Jacobs Overbeeke, age four, was diagnosed with leukemia on Thursday, 28 December 2017.
Anyone who’s met Alba knows she is a bright, determined and smiley young girl, who has touched so many hearts.
Her passion for, and knowledge of, the ocean and our environment is incredible at such a young age. Her efforts to clean up plastic on Mossel Bay’s beaches shows that she’s determined to help care for our town and our planet.
Alba has received a lot of chemo and other cancer treatments at Cape Town’s Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, and will continue with treatments into 2020. The expense of traveling between Mossel Bay and Cape Town, Alba’s strict diet, and medication run very high. This dinner and auction is not only to raise funds for Alba and her family, a big wish for them is to also raise awareness of children’s cancers and the desperate need for more South Africans to donate blood and stem cells to help save lives. Any funds left over at the end of Alba’s treatment will be donated to the paediatric oncology department at Red Cross, where an amazing team of doctors and nurses work hard to help dozens of children survive childhood cancer every year.
This event will start at 18:00 on Saturday, 21 April 2018. Tickets are available online at R250 per person.
